Traces and new signs
The new structures are juxtaposed with the original buildings using a contemporary design language, clearly distinguishing themselves without changing their identity. The rough texture of the stone and the precision of the new geometries coexist in a measured balance, with the construction of the space relying on the dialogue between different eras.

The interiors preserve the intimate character of a shelter. The thickness of the walls, the continuity of the stone surfaces and the light streaming in through the skylights define introspective spaces, where time seems to slow down. During the day, the light marks the passing of the hours; at night, the same slashes of light reflect the sky and the stars.

Once through the threshold, one’s perception changes completely. The Mediterranean garden, the fruit trees and the rows of vines replace the sheltered atmosphere of the interiors with the open landscape. Each suite thus offers an experience based on the alternative of privacy and surrounding nature.

Exhibition “25X25 Architecture. A Contemporary Atlas”, organised by the Department of Architecture at the University of Bologna and the Single-Cycle Master’s Degree Programme in Architecture, Cesena campus, as part of the 25th Anniversary of Architecture Cesena (1999–2024), under the patronage of Cesena City Council and the Forlì-Cesena Institute of Architects, held in Cesenatico at the Colonia Agip from 13 September 2024 to 14 September 2024.
The project redefines the eight original trulli into a system capable of meeting the requirements of hospitality. The new additions integrate the functions necessary for a stay without compromising the clarity of the historic structures, giving rise to different solutions united by the same compositional framework.
A small tuff building, originally the farm worker’s residence, has been transformed into a guest house. Star-vaulted ceilings, natural materials and light are the elements that define the atmosphere of this suite surrounded by vineyards.
The roof has been transformed into a viewing point in the centre of the estate, from which one can admire, at different times of day, the landscape that merges with the sea on the horizon.
