Site area

approx. 100 hectares

The site reveals itself as a palimpsest of fragments from a long-forgotten agricultural heritage. Masseria Samia, a mid-18th-century building featuring a votive chapel from 1727, dialogues with the original system of courtyards, the ancient sheepfold and a separate building once reserved as the steward’s residence. All around, like silent sculptures, eight dry-stone Maruggesi trulli are distributed throughout the landscape.

San Marzano Vini’s acquisition of the complex has launched a new chapter for these buildings, transforming them into an innovative showcase for wine culture, where the winery’s story becomes a sensory experience and a laboratory of ideas.

Exhibitions

Exhibition “25X25 Architecture. A Contemporary Atlas”, organised by the Department of Architecture at the University of Bologna and the Single-Cycle Master’s Degree Programme in Architecture, Cesena campus, as part of the 25th Anniversary of Architecture Cesena (1999–2024), under the patronage of Cesena City Council and the Forlì-Cesena Institute of Architects, held in Cesenatico at the Colonia Agip from 13 September 2024 to 14 September 2024.

Within this context, the project involves three complementary actions: landscape design; the definition of a system of hospitality that connects the masseria with the buildings scattered throughout the landscape; and the transformation of the main floor of the masseria into an exclusive residence.

MASSERIA SAMIA

Hospitality spread across the Mediterranean landscape

The eighteenth-century masseria becomes the heart of the hospitality experience: the reception, lounge, restaurant, wine-tasting and event spaces are arranged around its historic courtyards and gardens, bringing architecture, wine and landscape into dialogue.

CASA SAMIA

Living in a winery landscape

On the first floor of an 18th-century farmhouse surrounded by the vineyards of Apulia’s Ionian coast, the project redefines the concept of private residence as a continuous experience blending architecture, nature and memory.

TRULLI SAMIA

A constellation of rooms

A form of hospitality that is widespread, intimate and peaceful: it takes shape in the dry-stone trulli, designed as a constellation of shelters in the landscape of Masseria Samia. The thickness of the walls, the overhead light and the openings to the outside provide an authentic, slow and immersive experience.

SAMIA LANDSCAPE

A new rural geography

The landscape is redesigned by integrating the geometry of the vineyard with the fluidity of the Mediterranean garden. The result defines a renewed rural geography in which architecture, agriculture and open spaces once again become part of a single, cohesive landscape system.

Every hospitality project begins with the identity of the place and the experience it aims to create. If you are developing a hospitality property, restoring an existing complex or working on a landscape-led project, reach out to share your vision. Request an initial consultation.
